Call Quality Issues — What to Check

Check these things if you're experiencing poor call quality.

If you're experiencing poor call quality (echo, delay, robotic voices, or dropped calls), try these checks.

Step 1 — Check your internet connection

VoIP calls require a stable internet connection. Run a speed test at https://www.speedtest.net. You need at least 100 kbps upload per active call.

Step 2 — Use a wired connection

If your phone is connected via WiFi, switch to a wired Ethernet connection. WiFi can cause jitter and packet loss.

Step 3 — Close bandwidth-heavy applications

Video streaming, large file uploads, and cloud backups can compete with VoIP traffic.

Step 4 — Check your headset

Try a different headset or use the desk phone handset to rule out hardware issues.

Step 5 — Note the pattern

When you raise a ticket, include: what the issue sounds like (echo, delay, robotic, cutting out), whether it happens on all calls or specific numbers, the time of day it typically occurs, and your extension number.
