Internet Running Slow — What to Check Before Calling

Quick checks to help diagnose slow internet issues.

If your internet feels slow, these quick checks can help us diagnose the problem faster.

Step 1 — Run a speed test

Go to https://www.speedtest.net and run a test. Note down the download speed, upload speed, and ping. Include these in your ticket.

Step 2 — Check if it's just you

Ask colleagues if they're also experiencing slowness. If it's just your device, the issue is likely local.

Step 3 — Try a wired connection

If you're on WiFi, plug in an Ethernet cable and test again. If wired is fast but WiFi is slow, the issue is with the wireless network.

Step 4 — Close unnecessary applications

Video streaming, large downloads, and cloud sync (OneDrive, Dropbox) can consume significant bandwidth.

Step 5 — Restart your device

A restart clears temporary network issues and refreshes your connection.

When to raise a ticket: Speed test shows significantly lower results, multiple users affected, or the issue persists after these steps. Include your speed test results.
