No Dial Tone — Basic Checks

Try these steps if your desk phone has no dial tone.

If your desk phone has no dial tone, try these steps before raising a ticket.

Step 1 — Check the cables

Make sure the Ethernet cable is firmly plugged into the back of the phone and into the wall socket. Try unplugging and reconnecting both ends.

Step 2 — Check the phone is powered on

The phone screen should be lit. If it's blank, check the power cable or PoE (Power over Ethernet) connection.

Step 3 — Restart the phone

Unplug the power/Ethernet cable from the phone, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in. Wait 1-2 minutes for it to boot up.

Step 4 — Try a different handset cable

The curly cable between the handset and the phone base can become faulty. Swap it if you have a spare.

Step 5 — Check if others are affected

If multiple phones have no dial tone, it may be a wider system issue — raise a P1 ticket immediately.

If your phone still has no dial tone after these checks, raise a ticket with your extension number and what you've tried.
