Setting Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Set up MFA for an extra layer of account security.

Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your account. Even if someone has your password, they can't sign in without the second factor.

Setting up the Microsoft Authenticator App (Recommended)

  1. Download Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android)
  2. On your computer, go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup
  3. Sign in with your email and password
  4. When prompted, select Mobile app and choose Receive notifications for verification
  5. Click Set up
  6. A QR code will appear on screen — open the Authenticator app on your phone and scan it
  7. A test notification will be sent to your phone — approve it
  8. MFA is now active

How it works day-to-day

When you sign in from a new device or location, you'll receive a notification on your phone. Simply tap Approve in the Authenticator app.

Backup methods

During setup, register a backup method (phone number for SMS codes) in case you lose access to your phone.
